Frequently Asked Questions

Do I tap Start on the iPhone?

Yes. AirPods Pro connected and in, open AirHRM, tap Start. That's what turns on the HealthKit workout and the Bluetooth broadcast; only then does AirHRM show up when you add a heart rate sensor on your Garmin, Peloton, or whatever you're pairing.

Does it matter when I pair my equipment — before or after tapping Start?

Pair your equipment after you tap Start, not before. AirHRM only broadcasts heart rate once the session is active, so your Garmin, Peloton, or rower won't find the iPhone as a heart rate sensor until Start has been tapped and your AirPods Pro are connected.

My heart rate doesn't show. What's wrong?

No recent heart rate samples are reaching AirHRM from Apple Health. Common causes: Low Power Mode, AirPods Pro not connected or not in-ear, you have not tapped Start, Health permissions missing, or the system is still stabilizing.

On iPhone check Settings → Privacy → Health → Apps → AirHRM and allow heart rate access. Toggle the permission off and on if needed.

Do I need to keep the iPhone app open?

No. After your receiver connects, lock the iPhone or switch apps. AirHRM continues broadcasting in the background until you tap Stop.

Can I see my heart rate without opening the app?

Yes. When a session is active, AirHRM displays your live heart rate on the Lock Screen so you can glance at your phone without unlocking it. On iPhone 14 Pro and later, it also appears in the Dynamic Island. Both update automatically as heart rate data arrives — no interaction needed.

Does the Lock Screen display work when the phone is mounted on the handlebars or a machine?

Yes — that's exactly what it's designed for. As long as the screen is visible and the session is running, your heart rate stays on the Lock Screen throughout your ride, row, or workout.

Live Activity isn't showing. What should I check?

Make sure Live Activities are allowed for AirHRM — Settings → AirHRM → Live Activities (wording may vary by iOS version). If a session is already running, end the session, re-enable the permission, and start a new session.

Can I use another workout app at the same time?

Only one active HealthKit workout session should run on the iPhone at a time. If another app has claimed the session, AirHRM may not get reliable heart rate — end the other workout first.
